Branislav Ivanovic signs for Chelsea in January 2008
Branislav Ivanovic is not a name that trips off the tongue easily in most football watching homes in the UK but Chelsea seem very confident that given a few months settling in time the big centre back will be every bit as much a defensive mainstay for them as his international colleague Nemanja Vidic is for rivals Manchester United.
Ivanovic's only major career title so far has been a Russian Cup with Lokomotiv Moscow but with John Terry's injury problems becoming more and more persistent he'll have plenty of opportunities to chase silverware on a domestic and European stage with the West London side who beat off competition from Manchester United, AC and Inter Milan and Juventus for his £9 million signature.
