How To Execute A Cruyff Turn

By Alan Hylands, About.com

This how-to will show you the basic elements of the Cruyff Turn soccer skill made famous by one of the greatest footballers of all time, Dutchman Johan Cruyff.
Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: 2 minutes to learn, a lifetime to perfect

Here's How:

  1. Shield the ball from your opponent with your back to him and the ball close to your feet and under your control.
  2. Move your body as if you are planning to pass the ball to a teammate or execute a cross into the opposition penalty area, all the while keeping the ball shielded from the opponent behind you.
  3. As you pretend to pass the ball, drag it instead back through your legs and behind your standing leg with the inside of your other foot.
  4. Turn your body back to face the new direction of the ball and leave your marker to move in the opposite direction in which you had feinted to move. Carry the ball forwards and away from your stricken opponent.

What You Need:

  • A football
  • An opponent
  • Quick feet
